Where does European power trading talent come from?
Mostly from somewhere else. 87% of the professionals on our register did not start in energy trading. Which industries they came from, and in what shares, varies by market and by role family. A search that only reads rival desks misses most of the market.
Which universities feed European power trading?
Engineering schools dominate and the feeders are strongly national. A desk hiring in Aarhus and a desk hiring in Zurich are competing in different graduate markets. The register holds the feeder institutions for each market.
Where is the largest pool of power trading professionals in Europe?
It varies with the role. The largest national pool is not the deepest pool for every role family, and a desk sited on headcount alone can end up recruiting for its hardest role in its thinnest market. We hold pool sizes by role family for all fourteen countries.
Do power traders move firms, or move internally?
64% of role changes on the register are moves to a different employer and 36% are internal promotions or transfers. People also stay longer before an internal move. A desk that measures the market by its own leavers will underestimate how much the market around it is turning over.
